Candi Cane appeared on my grandma's door step last December, cold, starving, and frost bitten. She was climbing the door to get into the warm house with all the yummy Christmas dinner smells coming from it. We assumed she was dropped on the dead end road, left to fend for herself, hoping someone else would care for the cat they didn't love enough. Even though Candi is the homeliest cat I think I had ever seen to that point, she was adorable in her own right. Since last December she of course received lots of vet care and TLC. She spent her first month with me at the vet clinic dealing with her weight, ulcerated cornea, and frost bite, before she could be spayed. The untreated ulcer on her right eye has given her a permanent squint. Her ears have regrown most of the fur, but it is still slightly thin. And she has definately made up for her lack of eating ... she is now a plump little girl. Candi tested negative for feline leukemia and AIDs and was updated on her rabies and distemper combination vaccines. She was also treated for internal parasites and has been spayed and front declawed. Since January she has been living at my home, but would much prefer a home of her own with maybe 1 other cat at the most. With humans Candi is a complete sweetie, but she does not like other cats and only tolerates dogs, she doesn't prefer them. She has been in my house for almost 6 months, and though she rules the roost, she still swats at any other cat that comes near her - which was why she had to be declawed. I love her dearly, but know she would be happiest living as an only cat. (And Grandma already had a cat I'd given to her 3 years ago that doesn't like other kitties either.)
